Convention Details
Model Junction is kindly sponsoring the 2010 Convention "The Six Five Special". Not only does the Convention mark the British regions NMRA 65th anniversary but it also marks the NMRA 75th. With this in mind and in partnership with Model Junction we have gone all out to make this a convention one to remember. We want this to be a real modelers’ convention with hands on modeling for all skills levels.

Special guests: Big thank you to Model Junction who have sponsored both Pelle Sorborge and Peter Marriot who will both be holding clinics for all to enjoy over the course of the weekend and of course they will be signing their latest books on the Model Junction stand at selected times through out the weekend.

Modeling with the Masters:  This will be something new for a BR convention is a series of hands on master classes on subject such as Weathering, scratch building with plastic card, back scene panting, Digital photography, Track building, fitting decoders, craftsman’s kits etc.   Pre-booked groups of 10 members will get hands on experience for each class held; we hope they will come away with a better understanding of the subject they have chosen but most of all having enjoyed them. Booking forms will be available on this site and in RH.

Clinics:  For this convention we have two of the best model railroaders who will be holding clinics on both Sat and Sun along with plenty of other clinics running all weekend.

Trade: We are pleased to say we have some of the top traders in the Country at the ‘65 Special’ such as Model Junction, LSWR, Digitrains, Peco, P+ H models, Contikits, SPV, etc

Layouts: We have 16 Z to G. Yes 16 layouts that must be a record in itself for a convention. With many new and never seen before in the UK, built by the top US prototype modelers from Europe! Plus for members who are staying at the convention hotel there will be late night running well into the small hours!

RPM:   Again at a Kegworth convention there will be a RPM room with the members’ latest models on display. This is a relaxed way to show off your modeling skills just for the fun of it and a good way to see some of the most interesting models.

Contest rooms: With more and more entries into the contest we have given yet another room over to the contest chairman so that everyone will get the chance to enter their latest models. The contest covers a whole range of modeling skills from loco to structures, not forgetting the photo section; see Terry Wynne for information.

12inch x 12inch build a diorama and have some fun. Building a small 12x12 diorama the only rules are, it must have some railroad content and be no bigger or no smaller then 12” x 12” Win £25. £15. + Third place £ 10 in a popular vote contest again sponsored by LSWR.

Bring + Buy tables:  We have 50 tables again this year which get booked very quickly, so with that in mind you can pre-book for £5.00 per 4’ x 2’ table or £6.00 On the day but these will be strictly on a first come bases. Contact Tony Dunbar for more details

Non Rail:  We hope to have a full program for none rail, which again will have their own room.  The self drive tours to places of interest plus shopping centers within easy reach seemed to be very popular last time so that again will be available to anyone who wishes to use the maps and information provided. There will be tea and cakes when the AGM takes place.

New Station:  There is a new station (East Midlands Parkway) that is only two miles away from the hotel which makes it even easer for those travelling by rail to now get to the convention. For anyone staying at the hotel there is also a free service run by the hotel for them to pick you up and drop you off at the station. But please arrange this with them.

We have a full program for everyone to enjoy their weekend in this wonderful four-star hotel. There are full leisure facilities available with a discount for those staying at the hotel. So not only can you see some of the best Railroad models but you can relax in the swimming pool afterwards or if you fancy a massage then why not!  The wine tasting proved so popular last time we have it again thanks to the hotel. So on Fri evening you can enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of music played by a local band while trying some of the finest wines around. All of which you can order for the banquet on Saturday evening.

So on behalf of the "65 Special" team come along and enjoy.
