Re: Paint Markers

Missed this one! Once dry the acrylics do not come off, make sure they are where you want them! The markers dry in seconds, you have to be quick to remove them. I do small patches at a time. The washes take longer to dry maybe 1/2 hour to fully dry. I usually do a white wash first to fade the car, t...

Re: Paint Markers

Two cars again weathered with acrylic paint pens and washes. Both were done from photos. A DIFCO side dump car. The black patches under the stripes look like they were brush painted so are this rough. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4619/38789772270_ba1c4ceba1_o.jpg 11th Avenue difco gondola weatheri...

Re: 11th Avenue

Now I am taking 11th Avenue to Devon Freemo I thought it was about time I built the depot, I bought the Walthers Union Station kit about 15 years ago! but so far there have only been paper stand ins on the layout. If you have seen my previous buildings you will know I like to detail the insides and ...

Hello

I saw your article in the Roundhouse, as no one has made contact here is mine. I started modelling logging back in the 80's, but not much in the last ten. I have a layout built back then, which was exhibited in the South West for over 15 years and once in London. It was in Continental Modeller back ...

Re: Last corner

Not only have I reused the corners, but my 23rd Street module is built from three boards I made in the 80s! They used to be the front of a continuous exhibition layout, then spent about 20 years in my loft before reuse. They were 18" wide just right for the single track standard. I still have t...

Re: Last corner

Dean, if you mean changing the board. It used to be one of four 90º corners used with our old double track modular layout, see photo. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4529/24964362978_1ec8f511a6_o.jpg Modular0080 copy by Mike Ruby , on Flickr These corners went out of use when we changed to single tra...

Re: Last corner

The new ends and sides are now fitted, next the leg sockets. Problem is the half with the bridge has the board inverted, i.e. the deck is on the bottom. I think the multitool will earn its keep here, a brilliant tool for cutting in tight awkward spaces.

Fire station

After a long time another building finished. For years my fire station was as bought a Walthers ready built. I have painted the exterior, detailed the interior and added lighting. Last corner

I'm rebuilding my last double track corner into a single track standard module. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4576/24876962088_c5ccaa88ee_o.jpg [/url] New single module corner by Mike Ruby , on Flickr So far I've removed the inner track, the outer will remain and become the new single track. Re: Sound effects on the railroad

Interesting, for short recordings old small capacity SD cards could be used. I've recorded free downloaded samples and arranged them into a sound track I burnt to CD. A cheap CD player under the layout is then used to play them. This method allowed for a 30+ minute sound file. One had city sounds wi...

Re: Dual-Gauge operations

As shown in the photo I linked to, you don't need a switch to get to four rails. It would be an interesting bit of track to build and you only need one on the lead to the turntable.

Re: Dual-Gauge operations

All the Google evidence shows that there were four rails on the turntable.
See here for the way to go from three to four rails.

Re: Tsunami TSU-21PNEM (pt no 884003)

Unless you are lucky expect 20% - 30% tax and duty added to an import. Loksounds or TCS WOWs can be bought in the UK, how much more they are compared to what you were looking at I don't know. I usually buy mine from Coastal see here http://www.coastaldcc.co.uk/products/decoders/sound-decoder/ They s...

Re: 23rd Street

No not motorised, I do have the bits to do a working rail crane, one day!
It is fully positionable, but with no driver in the cab I should leave it parked.

Scrap yard

At the scrap yard there is now an excavator fitted with a grab. I made the grab from sheet brass, it is hung from a brass bracket that replaces the original bucket. The fingers could do with being thinner with the widest point nearer the tips, I'll try that on the two others I need for two more vehi...
