Re: North Fork Springs

I didn't get around to trying the new foam board, but have done some more rocks, tunnels 47 and 43 now have rocks around their mouths. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/NFSrocks4_zps9098154c.jpg Tunnel 47 is behind the bridge. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_...

Re: The AP and the youth of today...

Joel has been in Scale Rails a few times, his mum and dad are the editors. He also has had help from others such as Allen McClelland and Tony Koester. But his father has stated that Joel has done all the work himself, paid for most of it and probably worst, has two perfectionist parents to work unde...

Re: Modern freight local switching

Sounds like they have a decent amount of acceleration and deceleration set in their sound decoders! Now that is a crew working well, no hanging around! Set your locos to work like this and then learn when to start braking to stop at the correct place is so rewarding to operate. None of your direct c...

Foam

I bought two sheets of the Celotex today. It is similarly fine grained to the pink stuff, but less dense. Probably not so good for laying track on but better for carving scenery, the use I want to put it to. I'll see if I have time to try a bit this weekend.

Foam

I don't use a hot wire cutter, too many fumes. I cut it with a box knife, blade extended or a 12" freezer knife. I've also tried a jigsaw at slow speed, very good for a smooth sided cut, but does make more dust. I no longer glue layers on top of each other, I've found it hard to disguise the jo...

Foam

I'm not sure if this is the same type of foam. I may go and have a look, I'm on my last half sheet. http://www.wickes.co.uk/celotex-cavity-wall-board-50mmx1200x450/invt/190546/ It is in stock in Plymouth. I have seen foil covered board before it was used to do all the scenery on the N scale Seawall ...

Some more scenery

Well that's the end of this holiday's layout work. The two tunnels on the lifting board have foam over them with one carved. I had to notch the tunnel mouths to clear double-stacks, made worse by both being on curves. Tunnel 48, entrance to the lower end of the storage yard. http://i295.photobucket....

Re: Model Railroader 75 years DVD

I'm not sure if you can install on two drives, there's nothing in the instructions that say you can't. One shared drive may work if the whole installation goes on it. You can't access the PDFs directly, they are locked, you have to go via the MR program. You can save favourites and bookmark articles...

Lifting board

I had to get into the airing cupboard today so took photos of the board when lifted. Here a view of the board swung over. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/NFS/NFS%20Lifting%20board/NFSliftingboard31_zps78d0811e.jpg The access created when lifted. Re: Model Railroader 75 years DVD

I've installed it on my main hard drive, takes over 23Gig. Seems to search ok and everything displays that I've come across. I found I only used the old mags to find articles, it is far easier to search the digital version than look through real ones. Plus I only had back to the 80's and they took u...

Re: North Fork Springs

The Lumber spur is the only bit fairly well finished. The benchwork is 9mm ply on 3"x1" frame, I don't plan to move it, but the layout will split up into six sections if it ever has to. The lifting board does swing up and into the room, now the hinge line is at an angle. The old method wen...

Christmas work

I seem to get the most work done over Christmas, the weather's too bad to do anything outside. I live alone so no kids, etc. to get in the way! Last year the Lumber spur was started. This year I was going to do some scenery and add 110 trees I've bought. But instead decided to redo my lifting board ...
