Re: 23rd Street
I've added the backing for the low relief buildings. I was going to make them a few inches deep, but then thought that would put them in the scrap yard when folded and being wider would not make them look much different, it would make the module wider so I just added 3/4". I had planned a fold ...

Re: My First Layout - N Gauge Denesport & Lesley Falls
Nice drawing! Most don't even have a scribble, that makes it very hard to fault find. The only thing I would question is switching the power to the passing loop by the right hand turnout, 1. you don't need the double pole switch as the loop can be connected to the the frog, with both rails on the sa...

Re: 23rd Street
The pump is a fan. I'm not sure if they are used in this case, but I do know that there is some vacuum unloading done and I have worked where woodchips were transported by blowing them through pipes with such fans. There was a circuit of about 100m of pipe which climbed around 8m from the sawdust ho...

Re: 23rd Street
A view of the loading shed at the Christow Freemo meeting. I'm now thinking of adding low relief buildings to the left edge of the board, creating a bit of a canyon effect and giving a better impression that this is just a small structure in the plant. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7656/26361797694...

Re: 23rd Street
Last day of building before Christow, Friday will be for packing and hopefully some car weathering. The board plant now has ground cover and I've added warning notices to the building. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/23rd%20Street%20board%20plant%2017-05-16_sm_...

Re: 23rd Street
Well the roof came off ok. The silver dots on the underside of the roof are the magnets. I've had the board folded and the roof stayed on whilst inverted. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/23rd%20Street%20board%20plant%2004-05-16_16%2035%2033_zpsjbcp9ulu.jpg I fo...

Re: 23rd Street
The main roof is now on. I'll leave it to fully dry overnight before lifting it off, hopefully in one piece. It is held on by 8 sets of magnets for easy access. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/23rd%20Street%20board%20plant%2003-05-16_21%2033%2026_zpsdpg2jzvh.jp...

Re: 23rd Street
Day three of the board plant. I've laid rails in the floor, I used plastic angle cut into the foam core base, no locos allowed in here! http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/23rd%20Street%20board%20plant%2002-05-16_10%2052%2042_zps2sgzhcfp.jpg Next was the platform t...

Re: 23rd Street
The particle board plant is coming on (still needs a name!) I bought a Pikestuff M.A.C. kit, which is a kitbash in it's self. I laid out the wall pieces on the layout. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/23rd%20Street%20board%20plant%2030-04-16_10%2037%2040_zps0kt5...

Re: My First Layout - N Gauge Denesport & Lesley Falls
You can also do braking on decoders with ABC (many European makes) by inserting diodes in the track feed, I had thought of doing this for 11th Avenue if it had done exhibitions, for automatic passenger running. Still this is all too complicated for a simple switching layout such as Dean's, keep it s...

Re: My First Layout - N Gauge Denesport & Lesley Falls
You really don't want dc and DCC on a layout at the same time, if they get connected together (a loco or piece of stock bridges two blocks) one or both may be damaged. I would have a power plug that connects the layout to the power source. With a matching socket on both the dc and DCC power units ei...

Re: 23rd Street
Do you mean uncoupling and switches? My layouts are generally are hand uncoupled using a sharpened wood skewer. 11th Avenue does have a magnet on the rear most loop, useful in use at home, and my home layout has them on the upper level, which are not so easy to reach. 23rd Street has no magnets it i...

Re: My First Layout - N Gauge Denesport & Lesley Falls
Peter meant that if you installed cab control blocks (blocks that can be connected to several cabs) DCC could be connected as another controller. But it is not a good idea to have the possibility of both types at the same time so it is just as easy to make it so that either the DC or DCC power is pl...

Re: My First Layout - N Gauge Denesport & Lesley Falls
Lifting the mainline can look good, it only needs to be a bit, I raise mine (HO) by layer or two of card, it is surprising how noticeable it can be. Here is 23rd Street's curve the main (middle track) is raised and super-elevated, the siding (right track) is starting the climb to meet the main just ...

Re: 23rd Street
A good day on the industry extension. The two turnouts are installed. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/IMG_0081_zpsssr9k2t8.jpg I'm using a very basic control for them, a toggle switch moves them, the switch powers the frog. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm...
