Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

After spraying the roundhouse floor sections, allow at least 24 hours to dry. The surface might appear dry but it is not and will not accept the next step which involves a lot of surface rubbing, so the primer must be dry and hard. Using a 2B pencil to draw lines on to the concrete floor to represen...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

While waiting for the roundhouse floor sections to dry I started looking at the interior walls – and they still look like plastic…!!! http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8389.jpeg So I decided that they too should get a coat of Halford’s Grey Primer. http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploa...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

Styrene has been added to the floor sections and it is now ready to be transformed from plastic to concrete…!!! http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IMG_8391.jpeg I use Halfords grey primer because it is easy to use with lots of ventilation because the fumes can kill you or give you a nasty...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

On of the problems I face with assembling a kit vs. scratch building a structure is that if I stick to the kit and build it as supplied it will bother me that something is wrong. At this early stage it is the floor. I cannot understand why there is no provision to cover the spaces between the floor ...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

Roundhouse Floor Assembly I started to assemble the provided floor assembly sections and soon noticed the poor alignment caused by surfaces not being square: http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/IMG_8319.jpeg This makes it very difficult to glue them together while maintaining a level flat...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

Roundhouse Floor Sections Closer inspection of the kit components and the lack of any instructions is like looking at a jigsaw puzzle and trying to imagine what goes where and how. I thought I should be looking at how the inside floor goes together as this will determine the foundation shape and an...

Re: Dean Halls Challenge 2015 N Gauge Buildings

Dean Your New England coast line theme sounds interesting... and the Cromer Lighthouse is very similar to the lighthouses of Maine. Inserting images is quite easy if you have your images stored online somewhere like Photo Bucket, Flickr, etc. The code required is something like this [ img ]http://fl...

Henry

I am 105 miles each way to Plymouth and 61 miles to Bearwood each way - very worth visiting - there are some very good modules and modellers at both.

Painting Windows Time to start painting the window castings. I am using a combination of three Vallejo colours: No. 71023 Hemp, No. 328 Japanese Tank Crew, No. 334 German Tank Crew http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/IMG_8289.jpeg The unpainted window frames have very nice detail, we will...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

It has been a busy week painting and detailing all of the wall sections mentioned above. Before going on any further I thought I would show some before and after photos as it is sometimes hard to imagine what things looked like before painting. Before: http://stlandh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/I...

Re: Hello folks

Welcome to the NMRA Forum... Have you considered building your layout in a modular form built to the Freemo Standard so that you can easily move and possibly display your modules at area modular meets? I am speaking from experience as I had previously constructed both 18" and 24" wide x 12...

Re: Challenge 2015 - Peter Bowen - HO Roundhouse

After everything has dried overnight, the result does not look as good as it did when it was wet with paint. But be patient, this is a process of laying down thin washes of colour to build up a three dimensional look. We are trying to make the lovely plastic cast detail look like real bricks and the...
