Re: 23rd Street
The new board is now attached to the main board. Here it is in position http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/IMG_0078_zpsgy1yva0k.jpg The hinges are behind the two ply blocks. Once down it is locked in place by two loose butt hinges, one at each end and a hand wheel...

Re: 23rd Street
Another weekend and back to layout building! I've attached the wedge to the main board. Here folded for transport. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/IMG_0098_zpsb7mgzhlg.jpg Unfolded, I plan to add a drop down flap in the wedge's space for a log unloading area. h...

Re: 23rd Street
A bit of a jump as 23rd Street is now sceniced, but after deciding to not use the line off the side for a branch I'm now making an industry board for it. This will be a particle board (MDF, OSF, Ply) manufacturer. This gives a good range of cars, box, centerbeam flat, covered hopper, wood chip hoppe...

Re: Michael Portillo
And now Billy Connolly is doing a trip on Amtrak, Chicago to New York the wrong way (via LA).
Quite a few BNSF freights along with the Empire Builder in the first episode. Should be the Coast Starlight next week.

Re: My First Layout - N Gauge Denesport & Lesley Falls
I think it is more important that the track is well ballasted and painted. That makes the rails and ties merge into the track bed and the type of track is less noticeable. I use HO code 75 tie spacing to make lighter laid track in spurs and yards. Use fine ballast, a lot of it is too coarse, I sieve...

Re: Thunder and lightning
For my exhibition layouts I made up CDs, one with city sounds and the other out in the woods. I used free to download sounds, edited them in a sound program and burnt them to CDs. I then played the CD matching the layout on a CD player under the layout. The city one had a police chase, fire engines ...

Thunder and lightning
I like this one http://www.broadway-limited.com/1598lightningandthunderaccessoryforany-scalelayout.aspx I had an exhibition layout which played a thunderstorm every 40 minutes or so, along with traffic and aircraft sounds. But flashing lights would look great. I did see a layout at Warley that relea...

Re: The Fun Starts Here.
I used heavy duty adjustable brackets, screwed into the wall studs with 3" screws. I also have some wood angle brackets on the front wall, one can just be seen at the right side of the second photo, behind the yellow clamp. They used to support a previous layout, otherwise I would have used the...

Re: The Fun Starts Here.
Make sure what ever holds the layout to the wall is strong, you will put a lot more stress on them when angling the legs to the wall.

Re: North Fork Springs
As well as the area shown on the plan, which gives more space for scenery I'm hoping the extra height reached by the inner track will sort out the unsatisfactory point where it crosses over the end of North Fork Springs yard. If I can push it out further I can get it behind a back scene, instead of t...

Re: North Fork Springs
Well after a two year hiatus I have finally removed the airing cupboard and have plans for the new corner. The old layout hanging off the cupboard. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/NFS/NFS%20rebuild%20corner%205_zpspesizbky.jpg Now removed, an extra 10 square feet of space. N...

Ahh back on line Another set of rocks after staining, there is a lot of white in many rocks, check photos of where you are modelling. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/NFSrocks4_zps9098154c.jpg A finished cliff with talus made from the large stones left from sieving ballast fr...
