Re: 23rd Street

And we have track! The middle pair of hinged boards have most of the track laid. The mainline is raised on the white card, with the passing siding parallel to it. Top left will be the yard, turnouts are in, the yard tracks will pass onto the next board. The centre beam sits on the team track, a long...

Re: 23rd Street

The trackbed has been laid, I use laminate flooring underlay. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/23rd%20Street%2012-07-15_11%2016%2023_zps3znqnzxm.jpg Most track will be laid on this surface. After laying I cut the drainage ditches into the underlay, and partly st...

Re: 11th Avenue

Cloudy weather may not be good for going out in but it does give some interesting lighting on my layout. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4655/40556610622_9edb574482_o.jpg 11th Avenue glint 1 by Mike Ruby , on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4798/25728426987_a2c0daeb5b_o.jpg 11th Avenue glint 2 ...

Re: 23rd Street

Finally I have assembled all the boards. http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm127/mikeruby_photos/23rd%20Street/23rd%20Street%20%2013_zpsdn2fny9o.jpg It fills my lounge, too much to work on. It was designed to have to have most switches and electronics on the the hinged pair of boards. http://i295.p...

Re: Prodigy advanced 2 programming track

Is your programming track part of the layout? If so could something have bridged the isolated joins? That could damage the program output.

Re: F1 and trains

I only missed bit of first practise and saw no trains this year, despite better views. Several ships went through the locks though.

Re: F1 and trains

And we are back at Montreal for 2015. A new high view down the pit lane gives a great view of the bridge, but I've not seen any trains yet (2nd practise).

Re: Uncoupling improvement

One of our members, Paul, brought some shorter square skewers with a wide flat end to our meetings. I've now changed to these, I found them at Sainsbury's. I put my layout name on the flat part and I find the square section helps when twisting it. I was surprised by how much better the polish made t...

Uncoupling improvement

I use the well known bamboo skewer for uncoupling, but they don't always slip between the couplers easily. Yesterday I thought about putting wax on them. I couldn't find my lump of bee's wax (handed down from my dad, who used it to wax coat model ship rigging). So what else? I have Pledge Klear for ...

Real switching

How about this for the real thing, no hanging around here. The last switch on the grade is especially interesting. Note with several crew on the ground the train is not waiting for them to move around. I do try to switch like this, this is where a well setup Loksound works well, giving the high engi...

Re: Loksound chip for Bachmann GE 45 ton switcher.

Depends on the space in the loco, does it have a circuit board that the Direct could replace? Basically the Direct is a micro mounted on a circuit board that has the LED resistors and extra bits to get 6 outputs. It fits under the low hood of a SW1500. Sugar cube speakers are very small and are supp...

Re: Loksound chip for Bachmann GE 45 ton switcher.

The Selects have more limited connections, the standard with 8 and 21 pin, the micro with 8 pin, the direct solder tabs (replaces many original circuit boards). If you don't want to change the individual sound files the Select is the choice (you can still change the whole project), for a few pounds ...

Re: East Neuk Fisheries Railway

I presume that whether you pick the car from the yard or staging depends on whether the car required is empty or loaded. An empty car could come from the yard, but a loaded one would have to come from staging, or have been loaded from an on-layout industry. Yes only empty cars would come from the y...

Re: East Neuk Fisheries Railway

If a car is available locally, e.g. sitting in North Forks yard and not assigned it gets used, otherwise they are picked from trains sitting in the staging yard or taken from off the layout and placed on one of the locals. I have waybills that go with the product and they determine what happens to t...
