Re: Pocket streamliner...
I think we're going to be assuming trailers are being loaded and unloaded ) Hi Martyn Keith brought a Container loading facility to the Convention, which in a way offers similar problems. I considered ignoring the container well cars and saying the containers were the JMRI cars. So a fleet of truck...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
i'd oppose the idea of 'categorising' modules, surely a major point is their flexibilty in use. Hi I Disagree, for three main reasons, Firstly a builder must have a clear idea of what he is building, what setting, ambiance even he is trying to capture. He must categorise before he even starts. Seco...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
Note we will not be totally dark territory, the storage yard already has signals, the crossing will be getting them and I plan to fit them to 11th Avenue. Hi Mike That's quite exciting, indeed we could perhaps say we have one "leg" of our layout CTC and the other dark territory! (Goes bac...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
I'd agree with Mike that if the module is likely to see lots of through traffic then it's best to either keep the industries very simple Hi Perhaps we need another layer of recommendations for the NMRA Modular spec to deal with different types of module and terminology? I think Mike Arnold mentione...

Re: Switching area module - a design challenge?
I am not sure I understand the statmenet (For those who are not following Western Union uses Lenz but not XpressNet). Is this because you use all Wi-Fi throttles? Hi Geoff I will need to study your reply, but to answer your question we do not use the RJ12 cables (Which I tend to call XpressNet cabl...

Hi
I think if we do such a thing we use this forum as our "base". I am sure we could negotiate for space for articles and such.

[quote="Mike_R" and the owners will have the correct leads to connect them![/quote] Hi Mike You have highlighted a real problem here. I certainly can no longer be bothered to include the DIN bus as it is not needed (apart from the junction we are dark territory) and is not in the NMRA BR S...

Re: how to manage a module meet?
Hi A further update on JMRI WiFi. At Western Union this weekend they just worked. Our only problem was with turnout control and we think that the JMRI Server needs to have the list of all the turnouts. A minor point as NMRA Modules do not plan to use throttles for turnout control. There has also ben...

HO Ballast
Hi
I was wondering if we have a recommendation for the type of ballast to be used on our HO NMRA BR Spec boards.
Thanks

IIRC at Snake Bend we had problems logging a droid onto a Mac network. Could we test it at WU?

Re: JMRI on Raspberry PI
a second hand Windows PC / laptop looks a lot more interesting Koos Hi Koos I think one would be pressed to get a £50.00 laptop! But yes, a old doorstop windows PC can be obtained for nothing. One of these set up to run headless with linux could indeed prove a cheaper, though bulkier, solution, for...

Re: JMRI on Raspberry PI
I think wifi server is the role we had most in mind... So basically you'd be talking a 'magic box' that connects to the router, the DCC system, and translates, with no external input? Hi Martyn I think all one would need would be a Pi, a wireless access point, a computer interface and perhaps a pow...

Re: JMRI on Raspberry PI
Hi Neil Yes it is possible, many including myself have done so. I could drove a train from my computer OK, but did not try programming. Steve Smith did, and it was so slow that JMRI lost the connection. I think its strength could lie in its "headless" mode, either as a JMRI WiFi server or ...
