Re: Credit crunch railroading...

* The hobby is very much what you make of it. * You don't need this years latest shiny new loco (the original discussion centred around the Genesis GP38-2 which, although undeniably gorgeous , is circa £200 with sound) to participate. Don't fall for the hype. Unless it's what you really, really wan...

Locomotion: Dan Snow's History of Railways

All

Did anyone catch the first episode of this BBC2 series and if so is it worth a watch from a industrial / social historial perspective rather than as a rail enthusiast

Cheers

Re: Layout planning: Batavia, IL

Following my initial post and the resulting feedback I went back and had a think about the design and also, given the amount of modelling time time and money I currently have, how could I get the maximum usage out of a layout. From a combo of comparing design specs for Seaboard Southern and NMRA mod...

Re: how to manage a module meet?

While we haven't got a critical mass yet in terms of the number of modules and thus the issue is not immediatley pressing the control bus compatibility issue is def a question that will need to be addressed. The NMRA Module Spec has, in my opinion, great potential to get members without a local grou...

Re: how to manage a module meet?

Koos

According to the FAQ on the WiThrottle website WiThrottle will send your train to Idle if you get an incoming call

http://www.withrottle.com/WiThrottle/FAQ.html

Annoying but avoids any unfortunate incidents

Never tested this personally so can anyone out there verify this?

Re: how to manage a module meet?

Koos Me and a few friends run both WiThrottle (Apple IOS) and Engine Driver (Android) on different devices. Out of the two our general preference is for WiThrottle - the main reason being the user interface is a bit more intuative but both are as operationally reliable in operation as each other. We...

Re: how to manage a module meet?

From my experience of using WiFi with JMRI and Digitrax I have instances where a loco selected on a WiFi throttle will suddenly 'drop off' and not respond and can't be recovered by reselecting on another WiFi throttle. However if selected on a regular throttle hard connected to the Loconet and then ...

Re: Christmas modelling

In the best traditions of Rabbie Burns my best laid plans well and truly "gang aft agley" (apologies to Mr Moore!) Plan was to install an highway over pass on my Thamesiders modules, install a DCC chip, weather a Genesis CITX SD70M-2 and weather a couple of extra freight cars plus install ...

Re: Layout planning: Batavia, IL

Thanks for the feedback chaps Mmmm....have the agree with you Martyn that the alignment of the 'main' could do with a rethink to get it a bit straighter- back to Anyrail for a tinker. I've also considering turning the cement spur into the lead for some off-scene industries as the existing spur is li...

Andy

Nice story re: the Metra ditchlights - the good old days when railroad where a bit more friendly towards enthusiasts.

Kato model comes sans handrails - must check some photos as looking to set my one around 2007

Cheers
