 MUSEUM REVIEW by Ian Wilson
CATAWISSA CABOOSE MUSEUM, Catawissa Pa.

While researching the Reading/Erie Lackawanna interchange at Rupert, Pa. and surrounding areas last autumn, I followed Route 42 south alongside the former EL tracks (now North Shore RR) and crossed to the South Shore of the Susquehanna River at Catawissa. Pulling up to get my bearings I accidentally stopped right outside Romania’s Trains & Toys, and after a modest purchase they advised me to visit the local Caboose Museum. This lies close to the river right next to the former Penn Central tracks (now D&H/CP Rail) on Railroad Street. Admission is free. There I found a wide assortment of cars all either restored or in the process of being restored, as the accompanying photographs show.
If you’re ever in the area on Route 11, I can also recommend Front Street Station Restaurant at Northumberland Pa. where you can have a beer or coffee alongside the Conrail Buffalo main.
