Region Treasurer Mike Arnold . . .
. . . has changed his address to 25A Fountain Lane, Hockley, Essex, SS5 4ST and his phone is now 01702 206760.
An omission . . .
. . . in the October issue, page 11 photo captions. The Southern SD24 is running on the Aldridge layout at Moors Valley. Also a couple of captions swapped homes on page 12 (Genesis and 72nd Street).
On a sombre note . . .
. . . Mike Inghams has noticed some deceased members were still on our directory list, and would like to be notified if anyone knows of any recently deceased members, so that their families are not distressed by continuing to receive Roundhouse.
As we now head into 2006 . . .
. . . may I again remind meet organisers to keep us up to date regarding details of their 2006/7 meets for “What’s On”.
Please note . . .
. . . I could not get every Swindon layout shot and contest winner into this issue – more to follow in February.
Ken O’Shea . . .
. . . compliments the convention team on a fine show, especially as there were only three of them! Ken says that though only a few of the Tamerton group came to Swin- don, a lot has gone on there under
the able leadership of Mike Ruby. Giant strides have been made in N, HO and O, plus two viable private layouts. Ken invites the NMRA show and convention organisers to contact Mike Ruby regarding bringing HO modules, and if anyone wants to see what goes on, Ken can recommend a reasonably-priced guest house in Plymouth Hoe.
Richard Iles writes . . .
Dear Martin, I enjoyed the 60th Anni- versary issue. I can remember how diffi- cult things were back in the ’60s, in Manchester. There used to be a Yank mag’ shop on Oxford Rd, near the university, but they didn’t stock Model Railroader. I was almost disappointed!
John (Toad) Spratley . . .
. . . wants to put on a “clinic and social” weekend. This would comprise Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime, in reason- ably priced accommodation that would provide clinic rooms and catering as required. No layouts, but probably mod- ules and/or dioramas among the clinic subjects, maybe a little bring-and-buy. Clinics run during the day, with dis- cussion and “social activity” in the evenings. He would like to hear soon from would-be clinic givers, and would-be learners! Also he’d like to know if anyone has access to information on a suitable

Swindon Arrow Bring & Buy & Members’ Sales Table John (Toad) Spratley
I was asked by Terry & Tim if I could oversee the operation of the bring & buy tables and also a new idea they had thought might go down well, called the Members’ Sales Table.
I decided to open the rooms at 8.30 Saturday morning; there was already a small queue of eager members waiting. A number of members had pre-booked tables beforehand and these were duly allocated upon receipt of the fee. More arrived, and eventually 20 tables were taken.
The Members’ Sales Table was a new concept (details in Septem- ber Roundhouse). It proved to be very successful, and members were quite happy that they could leave their items for sale on show and attended at all times. Because prices were clearly displayed and no names given, there was no haggling etc. As the modest charge of 10% of the asking price seemed reasonable to most people selling items, most items sold. Altogether some £900 of equipment was sold.
I can heartily recommend that this service be provided at all future conventions and meets.
I must also thank Gerry Burman and Steve Clements, who kindly gave their time to take over the desk so that I also managed to enjoy the Convention.
Friday Afternoon Trip – Steam GWR Museum
I was also asked to accompany the coach trip to the GWR Steam Museum at the old Swindon Works.
Our coach driver was prompt and friendly, and bore a passing resemblance to Jethro, the Cornish comedian, and had a similar repartee!
The Museum staff were also friendly and helpful and even gave us group rates for admission despite, at 14 souls, being a little under minimum size for that rate.
The Museum itself was excellent and well worth the visit. We spent a couple of hours there.
It did give us a good insight into the GWR, its history, workings and the Swindon complex.
All too soon, it was time to return to the hotel, but on the way back Jethro even managed a detour and commentary showing us the high points of the GWR Swindon Village built by Brunel to house the workers of the Swindon Rail Works.
Altogether an excellent way to spend the afternoon.
