 From Mike Ingham . . .
Re: Dave Gunn. Dave, as you may be aware, is an excellent modeller; he was once the librarian and is an MMR. He’s recently emigrated to Canada, to a place with the unusual name of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. Even more unusual is the name of the next place west along the tracks: Pugwash Junction! (I speak the truth here, I’ve seen it in the Times World Atlas.)
Richard Maxwell says . . .
Quite a few items on my “for sale” list do not belong to me, you might say they are on consignment!
I am always interested in part exchanges or even outright purchase. As a collector I am always looking for steam era items to keep, not to resell.
As I am regarded as a trader by some NMRA people, especially those in the Kegworth area, I shall not be taking a table at the Region convention but will be present as a day visitor on the Saturday. I can therefore bring items for viewing and will be pleased to look at HO brass.
Congratulations . . .
. . . to John Firth on receiving a President’s Award. Here is the list of those awards made at the National Convention.
From Rick Shoup . . .
“John Roberts announced President's Awards to: Fran Hale, Miles Hale, MMR, Bill Miller, MMR, Mary Miller, MMR, Pete Smith, MMR, Dave Messer, MMR, Larry DeYoung, Dick Flock, Don Hillman (Canadian Office Manager), Denise Bennett (Australia office manager), John Firth (British Office Manager), WELL DONE. All of you.
Regards: Rick Shoup MMR/HLM”
Card making
Regarding the handson card making clinic being held by Sue Wynne at the Convention, will all those attending please bring a sharp pair of nail or em broidery scissors. “Hobbycraft” (see their
advert in this issue) have provided a lot of free materials for this clinic, and wish to stress that both model railroaders and those ladies (and men!) interested in arts and crafts will find suitable products in their stores.
Rod Pickering
Rod Pickering’s wife, Liz, has asked to pass on her thanks to the many Region members who phoned and sent cards and messages of condolence following Rod’s recent death. Liz would also like to thank those members who travelled long distances to attend the celebration of Rod’s life. Everyone’s support was very much appreciated.
Terry Wynne says . . .
. . . if anyone is looking for fine chain for brake mechanisms or between the front/ rear handrail stanchions on locomotives they should first have a look on stalls at car boot sales for cheap jewellery items (a good source for small brilliants for headlights as well).
Secondly, the small costume jewellery shops or cheaper jewellery shops (i.e. not the normal town/city stores), as I managed recently to buy 12 lengths of very fine link silver chain for £2.

 From Keith Webb, Contest Chairman
Please remember to download your Contest Entry forms from the members’ area of the NMRA BR website at http://www.nmrabr.org.uk/
There is now only one rule sheet, and two forms to fill in for each entry; one just contains your name, the other is for construction details. So that's two sheets per model and one sheet of rules. All are standard A4 paper.
Entries must be in by 13 October 2006 (e-mailed or posted). Remember, if you are requesting any forms by post, to send an SSAE for the correct amount based on size and weight for the number of forms you need. (Postage under the new PIP rules that start 21 August: the weight of the minimum the SSAE can be = three sheets plus A4 envelope, works out at 44 pence up to an inclusive weight of 100 grams).

SECRETARY'S NOTES – IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ
Please can I remind all Division contacts and Department Managers to have all of your annual reports to me for submission in the AGM information sheets by 23 october latest. You only have a few more weeks to get your annual reports to me, as I intend to have the information packs finalised week commencing 23 october.
Since my last request for this I have been asked what should be in these reports. Sorry for not explaining this, but as these were asked for by Steve Park over the last several years I presumed all divisions knew what was required. My apologies for making assumptions. We need to see a report on what your division has been doing over the last year and expects to do/achieve over the next 12 months. this is just like a departmental business report, and for the larger divisions should include details of membership numbers and a financial summary. to ensure that the AGM is as short as possible and you can all do what you are at the convention to do – have fun – by submitting these reports beforehand, we do not have to go round robin to every division and have a verbal report. A report pack will be available for all members attending the AGM, and a summary in roundhouse after the convention for everyone else. I am sure you will all agree that this is beneficial to all parties.
