Swindon Arrow 2009 Static Diorama Competition
We are planning to hold a Diorama Competition on Saturday 24 October at the Convention in Swindon.
Those interested in entering this Diorama competition should complete the attached entry form and arrive with their Diorama before 11:00 on the Saturday and the diorama is to be removed from display at the end of the AGM. The plan is to have a panel of members who have not entered the competition to select the first, second and third place diorama. There will be a suitable prize from one of our sponsors for 1st place.
The rules of the diorama competition are:
1. The Competition is open to any NMRA member or their spouse/partner except for those members taking part in the
sponsoring and judging of the competition.
2. The panel judges will be selected from members or spouses/partners attending the Convention who have not entered the
competition, or sponsoring traders, and shall be made up of 3 or 5 persons.
3. The diorama shall cover an area exceeding one square foot but not exceeding 2 square feet.
4. The diorama should not exceed 15 inches in height including back scenes if fitted.
5. The diorama can be of any subject, but must contain 3 of the following 5 features as a minimum; points will be awarded
for each item included:
I. A section of railway track, does not need to be powered
II. Representation of water, which includes ponds, puddles, rivers, streams etc
III. A minimum of one figure
IV. A structure or part thereof
V. Vegetation in some form, i.e. grass, bushes or trees etc.
6. It should also contain a minimum of 1 component constructed from each of the following:
I. Something constructed out of wooden material
II. Something constructed out of plastic material.
7. Points will be awarded for:
I. Overall composition
II. Each of the seven items above included in the diorama
III. Modelling skills applied
IV. Realistic appearance.
8. Judging will take place at around 12:00 noon; 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize will be allocated by 14:00.
