Seaboard Southern move to
new premises
The Phoenix rises. Cleared for takeoff. Club makes new tracks. Following a disastrous fire in July, any one of these clichés could be used to describe Seaboard Southern’s move to their new premises. However, a simple factual statement is, on this occasion, far more appropriate.
Located in Horley, near Gatwick, the premises benefits from being fully enclosed, with electricallyoperated security gates, plus the additional benefit of a security company’s office located within the grounds. ‘The Space’, as the site has affectionately become known, is at the time of writing (mid October) being given an internal facelift and should, by the time you read this, be ready for club members to actually run trains.
Club Chairman Alan Crooks said, ‘Our members have really pulled together to achieve so much in such a short time. With the layouts we have already received, plus others we have been offered, we should be able to get back up and running very quickly. Then we will be able to have an “open house” to receive visitors and say thank you to those who offered their help after the fire at Tilgate.’
Seaboard Southern Group meets every Friday starting from 7 pm. Situated very close to the M23, ‘The Space’ provides an ideal location for NMRA members looking to join a local group, those who wish to visit other clubs, or those who simply wish to extend their modelling connections. Details can be obtained from their website at http://www.seaboardsouthern.org.uk, by contacting secretary@seaboardsouthern.org.uk telephone 07931 363457, or by writing to The Secretary, Boxtree Cottage, 6 Roman Lea, Cookham, Berks SL6 9BZ.
