P. 3

I write within hours of our return from the Kegworth 65th Anniversary con vention (see brief report elsewhere) and what a do it was! Even apart from the “anniversaryness”, it was a great weekend with loads of excellent lay outs, traders and models sprinkled about. The AGM produced ideas to be pursued in the next two or three months, that will hopefully produce the next stage up in what we provide for our loyal members.
The (partly) new board settled quickly into place without any requirement for further ballot. Robin Swan stepped up to President with thanks to John Spratley for his term in office. Keith Webb was the sole nomination for Vice President, and all remaining previous incumbents carry on incumbing! Because, obviously, there will be much in the way of minutes and reports, I won’t repeat that kind of material here, but I would stress one point to which we would like all members to give some serious thought. If you are happy to receive extra newsletters by email in between the printed copies of Roundhouse, please, please, please, let us have your UPTODATE email address ASAP, with permission to use it for just that purpose. Membership officer John Firth has a large number of members’ email addresses already – the more we have (in accurate form!) the less we would have to post out the tentatively proposed extra newsletters, with a huge saving in time and cost. In fact, it would be far easier to go forward on
the basis that if we do NOT hear from you that you wish to opt out, then you are happy with this arrangement.
I must emphasise that, assuming this idea goes ahead, members without access to email, or who do not wish their email used for this purpose, will not miss out – simple printed copies would be posted. The newsletter is not intended to carry article material or photos – just textual information, especially topical matters.
To this end, it will be useful for members, especially contact persons, to get into the habit of sending such info to us as a matter of course, knowing it will not be so outofdate when it appears. Of course all this will link with the website too, particularly the members’ section, but some of it might be suitable for public release too.
Bear in mind that any substantial and regular saving the Region can make in such ways means that increases in membership dues can be kept to the minimum necessary, though a small rise will be required next year – about £1 per year extra I believe – but still excellent value in these difficult times. You can’t get much for 46p a week these days!!
So it just remains for me to wish everybody a wonderful Xmas and New Year time, and hope to meet up (global warming permitting) at Benson in January.
