This loco started as a factory-painted Sunset Southern Pacific F4 2-10-2 (started as #3684) from which I removed the booster and its associated pipework so that it’s in the condition that most F4s were in the 1950s. Trying to find a photo of one with two sand domes and no smoke splitter on the stack was very difficult. As I have one to which I have fitted a smoke splitter on the stack and did not want another, I started the job of finding a photograph of one in the condition I wanted.
I found two eventually but one was pre-war; they had either one sand dome and smoke splitter or two sand domes and smoke splitter which they kept to the end. Renumbering to #3710 was done with Microscale Southern Pacific heavy steam loco decals. Weathering was done by me using airbrush and paint, and also AIM weathering products grungy brown and white with a brush.
