P. 3

Our October issue included a 4-page centre pull-out on getting started in the hobby. This series is to be continued, hopefully starting in the next issue, but in the meantime it would be interesting and useful to get members’ opinions on what aspects of North American railroad modelling you per- sonally would like covered.
Such feedback would be valuable in form- ing an understanding of what kind of in- formation you feel would be useful, and possibly not easy to discover elsewhere. Hopefully this will allow the series to pro- gress in a really meaningful way, rather than having to guess what is needed!
I would like to publish your responses in a future issue, in order to stimulate discussion amongst other members, to see how many agree, and possibly to encourage further input.
As I write I have just returned from the very enjoyable Convention. Many thanks to the organisers and all those who brought layouts, undertook clinics, oversaw the con- tests, manned the desk and all the other unsung heroes who make these things happen for our enjoyment.
It was nice to see varied layouts, from exquisitely detailed smaller switching lay- outs to large assemblies in HO and N, which enabled some good “American sized” trains to be run. I’m sure Steve Dennison’s N scale
kit-bashed Triplex was pulling a longer train than its prototype could have handled! Hopefully, by the time you read this, we will have much in the way of pictures and reports in this issue.
The business side of the Convention was light-hearted but purposeful – many new ideas were aired, which in due course will be presented, for discussion, to all members. Those of you who are able to, keep an eye on the website, as quite a bit will be going onto it in the near future.
It was nice to experience the entire weekend with harmony and fellowship continually apparent amongst all members present. After Keith Webb’s efficient and hardworking spell as President I feel we will be continuing on into a further period of enthusiastic innovation and productive effort under Mike Arnold and the Board. More power to their Cylinders!!
Finally, on a personal note, my wife Linda wishes to express her appreciation to the many members and their wives who came over to convey their pleasure at seeing her recovery from last year’s illness going so well. Long may that continue for all of us! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All
