 NMRA Layout Directory (New
Program)
Work is under way on a member Lay out Directory. This will replace the visitation feature of the old NMRA Pike
Registry Program. The Layout Directory will be an online
system that allows NMRA members (only) to:
• identify the layouts of participating NMRA members by
location, scale, gauge, era, prototype and area modelled etc;
• review the particular features of the layouts;
• contact layout owners to arrange visits or exchange common
interest information.
Layout owner participation will be voluntary, and builtin security features will protect privacy.
Milepost 70 – Part 5
. . . “There’s the final milepost with its special design,” observed the Engineer.
“We’re going to arrive a little early with these Conventioneers. Well done guys,” said the Conductor. “From all the information I’ve received, I know they’re going to have a good time.”
“If you look ahead you can see the loco that’s going to take over the train. Just as we’ve been specially renumbered, they’ve not only renumbered that loco but given it a special livery to mark the Anniversary. What do you think?”
The train crew skilfully brought the train to a stand just a few short feet from the waiting loco, so that they could be posed for the Conventioneers to take their photos. The Fireman took a photo of the new loco which he’s sent in to the magazine. What do you think of it?
Our story ends at this point. It is up to you to continue with it. There will be an opportunity to see both locos at the Derby Convention on 23–25 October.

A working group has been formed to develop the Directory, and input is needed from NMRA members. One of the first tasks of the group is to survey layout owners from the old Pike Registry and visitors to their layouts to determine:
• what visitation aspects worked;
• what didn’t work;
• what features they liked;
• what features they didn’t like.
Suggestions for the new Layout Directory
The working group also will survey other NMRA members who either own layouts or are interested in visiting layouts, to determine what they expect from a directory, what concerns they may have and suggestions in general.
NMRA members are invited to comment by contacting the working group chairman, Bob Chaparro, at chiefbobbb@ verizon.net or 9519252069.
Members interested in having their layouts included in the Layout Directory also should contact Bob.

 Obituary – Leslie Trill
I sadly have to report the demise of yet another member. Leslie Trill, who lived in South Devon, meticulously modelled the Santa Fe in 1941. His large N gauge (and Nn3) layout occupied the roof of his bungalow in the South Hams. I was fortunate to visit him regularly and observe the way he scratchbuilt accurate models of the AT&SF stations at Santa Fe, Lamy, and Trinidad. One half of his room depicted the city of Santa Fe together with stations and industries. Most of the areas he depicted I have walked around, and I could vouch for the fact that many of the buildings are still there as they were during the Second World War. In addition to the ATSF main line over Raton Pass showing both tunnel portals, plus the Morley mine on the east side of the pass, Leslie also included a short section of the D&RGW’s Chili Line with scratchbuilt operating dualgauge points! He ran the layout with ECM throttles powering a number of brass steam locos, though most of those had to have diesel helpers to get over the grades of the pass. Said diesels did mean the time period slipped a bit, as he had allowed some GP7s into his
collection. With your editor’s permission I will at a later date post a few more pictures of Leslie’s exquisite work.
