  CUPOLA
...FROM THE EDITOR
An interesting little nugget cropped up last November when the Great Central Railway (Loughborough) had an advert in the Mail on Sunday. Its illustration was of an obviously very American steam loco – probably the 2-10-0 used by Strasburg.
I contacted the Great Central and they admitted that such adverts were done by a third party, not themselves, and that they had never run a US loco, and couldn’t anyway because of limited clearances.
My closing remark was that as the Strasburg 2-10-0 originated on the Great Western Railway (of Colorado) the advertisers might have thought it was a loco that had usually run out of Paddington!
ALSO please note change of meeting date for Gosport Group from 13 Feb to 20 Feb.
As some members know, I indulge in a little custom painting of HO brass steam locos, and the biggest single (non-mechanical) problem is decals, especially for the more obscure roads, but also surprisingly for some quite popular and well-known ones. There are a few ways around this of course. For simpler jobs you can sometimes do a reasonable representation using alphabet. But the loco that brought this problem into focus was a Milwaukee F7 4-6-4 streamliner. There certainly have been decals made in the past, but hunting them down produced no results. As I write, the loco owner is dealing with having them custom made. But I am surprised that these are not apparently available from the big stockists (or even the historical society) even though diesel and rolling stock ones are.
Finally, getting a bit short of material again – single shots to long wordy layout histories all welcome!! Contact me if you are unsure about photo quality needed.

A belated welcome to new (-ish) member Elliot Lamb, of Darwen, who joined Calder Northern last year, at the ripe old age of 14. Les Herriot informed me that Elliot is a very keen modeller of USA outline, with interests at this time in ATSF and BNSF. Long may he model!
Please note, in Region Calendar, the unfor- tunate cancellation of the Winter Meet in Northampton (planned for 27 Feb).
