The Solent Summit N scale modular layout of the Gosport Model Railroad Club membership currently stands at 8: Bernie, Chris C., Chris H., James, Kerry, Morgan, Ted and myself plus honorary member Ant Quinlan!
Started in 2010, our N scale modular layout has grown remarkably over the years so we can exhibit from
65ft x 35ft down to a ridiculous 5ft square!
We operate the oNeTRAK modular system, http://www. ntrak.org/documents/oNeTRAK_Manual.pdf having a single track mainline with passing places and 2 large end storage loops.
For each module the rules are simple: wiring must follow the oNeTRAK modular system guidelines, plus track, scenery and ballast must match at board ends.
Further details of our guidelines can be found on the club website: http://gosportrailroadgroup.org.uk/sections/n_ modular_section.php
We generally use Peco code 55 track throughout, turn-
outs operated by Seep motors, which also switch frog polarity.
If needed, each board has its own CDU. The turnouts in main yards and Solent Summit Station are operated by CML Electronics DAC-20s with additional LED driver modules.
One push of a button sets the route, LEDs and, on the loops, triggers the polarity reversing relay.
We tried several methods for auto-reversing the looped yards, but with upwards of forty locos, many with sound on each yard, we kept getting problems, so good old- fasioned mechanical relays came to the rescue!
We use a Digitrax Super Chief and 3 DB150 boosters with PSXs to give us our power districts. The electronics are housed in two “suitcases” together with the 24vdc supplies for ancillaries, ammeters and various other things that only Chris H. understands!
