 Installing light and sound:
I installed mini smd leds on leads for lights. The way I did that on this model is as follows:
I drill out the lens openings on all lights that were going to be lit (I didn’t light up the red lights, using MV lenses for those) with a 1.6mm drill bit. Behind each light cluster I mounted a small piece of scrap styrene drilled all the way through inline with the light

I then insert small aluminium tubes to represent the reflectors, and double as a guide for a 1mm fiberoptic strand I inserted in the middle. I head up these strands with a naked flame just long enough for it to melt and form a perfect lens, and glue them in place. Inside the shell I glue the SMD leds behind them in the styrene supports.

Both units were equipped with a Locsound Select Direct decoder, and a sugar cube speaker. I like the sugarcubes as they are very small in comparison to normal speakers and give the same sound quality as larger conventional speakers, without sounding too scratchy. They give the perception of there being more bass than there really is too.
Once they were all wired up and assembled, I did the programming using a Lokprogrammer and loaded up a correct soundfile of an EMD 567 16 cyl turbo engine.
