Welcome to my second edition as publisher of Roundhouse the official publication of the British Region of the NMRA.
My goal is to deliver content that is of interest to all members from hands-on how to articles to news from all of the divisions to stories about prototypical railroading and covering all scales and gauges. I first joined the NMRA in 1975 when I lived in Canada and one of the very first things that I experienced about the NMRA was a phone call from a local chap who invited me to a monthly meeting at the local library (yes in the old days we had build-
ings that housed books and the public was invited to take books out to read...!) where I met some very fine modellers who were working on their Master Model Railroader certificates like Pete Moffett MMR No. 143, Clark Kooning MMR No. 225, Lex Parker MMR No. 300 and many others. It was in this circle of modelling influences that I found myself immersed in - and a world of endless possibilities with respect to modelling and building model railroad layouts. I had built some kit structures and I was encouraged to try scratch building - in a very short space of time I was hooked and started scratch building an HO coaling station originally found on the New York Central and shown on the right. This won Best of Show in 1982 at the NMRA re-
gional convention in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. It was this encouragement that got me started in the achievement programme and it is this idea of “sharing know how” that I would like
to see and share with you in future Round- house editions. Plus special thanks to David McLaughlin for proofreading this edition on his iPhone while visiting London!
