Our next project, a couple of end / return loops, is now in progress and we hope to add more modules to our collec- tion with a start on some double track modules.
Part of our aim is to incorporate JMRI operations into
our modules and so far we have successfully run with 3 modules in operations mode.
If there is anybody who wishes to visit or join us we nor- mally meet twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in a community centre just to the East of the city centre in York, our web site - https://yagngs.wixsite.com/york- shire-area-group. We can be contacted through ‘Round- house’ or via the website.
South Eastern Division
Like most other Divisions we do not meet as such and therefore rely on individual groups across the four coun- ties of our Division to organise events. Two groups meet formally each week in rented accommodated and two others meet at members’ homes. One of those groups, the Kent & East Sussex, decided to organise, with the financial support of Region, a one-day event in Hastings on 22 April 2017, “Model Railroading Revealed”.
This event was the brainchild of Dave Griffiths who, hav- ing suffered a stroke in 2015, wanted something he could do while his physical abilities got closer to normal. As Dave put it: “Try masking a 1/48th scale aircraft canopy with one hand!”. Ably supported by members from the group and two of the other groups in our Division (Sea- board Southern and South Shore) there was a display of five layouts in scales HO and N including a FreeMo set up plus G scale and O gauge models, along with demon- strations of baseboard design and construction, tracklay- ing, scenery, weathering, soldering, structure building, DCC programming and decoder installations. It was at- tended by members and the public alike. Although it was not a financial success, all who exhibited, demonstrated and attended said they enjoyed the day. All in all it was a great display of modelling talent that could be applied to any railroad modelling, across the pond as well as here in Europe. Mission accomplished!
