imagined that the Bus could work and found that the wheel spacing almost matched the prototype. After un- screwing the body, I was pleased that there was no bulky motor sticking up too far. This seemed to be the solution for powering my rail car.
Underframe and Deck
From the photo I had, it looked like the rail car was basically, a powered flatcar with a cab mounted on top. My first thought was to use one of the Bachmann On30 replacement underbodies and just fit the chassis under it. With the AP in mind, this would make me loose too many points in the scratch build category, so I decided to build a new frame, using Evergreen Styrene sheet and strips instead.
I started the underframe with a rectangular piece of .060” plain styrene (20 x 7 scale feet). I measured the area of the power chassis, which is recessed into the floor and then made an appropriate cut out into the styrene sheet, using a Micro Mark Nibbler Tool.
