Welcome to my second President’s Car.
Thanks to a superb effort by Publisher Peter Bowen, the September/October issue of Roundhouse arrived earlier than usual and once again he has put together an edition with a wide variety of articles for us to enjoy. Roundhouse is truly a great publication which showcases the Region at its best and must be the envy of other Region’s publications. I hope that by receiving the edition earlier than usual, it prompted you to come to the Annual Convention in Aberdeen if you were still undecided.
Firstly, I must once again thank David McLaughlin for the way he has steered the Region for the last two years. He will be a hard act to follow.
I must welcome Jonathan Small to the BoD as Vice President and I’m sure he will bring enthusiasm and fresh ideas to the Region and help take us forward in these challenging times.
Following a very enjoyable banquet on Saturday evening, it was a pleasure to present twenty Certificates of Appreci- ation. For those members not present, I will arrange for them to be delivered in due course. The recipient of this year’s Golden Spike is Steve Dennison, nomi- nated by David McLaughlin, for his Con- tribution to the Region for organising 3 previous Conventions and the 2020 at Derby. The Golden Spike will be present- ed to Steve at the Benson Winter meet on Sunday 2nd February 2020.
NMRA British Region Past President Da- vid McLaughlin presented Mike Hughes with National President Pete Magoun’s “The NMRA President’s Award for Service to the Division” in recognition of his exceptional service as Marketing Co-ordinator of the NMRA British Re- gion over many years.

The British Region is facing an important crossroads in its future. We are faced with rising costs and our income has decreased. At the AGM the four new membership categories were announced and the revised structure was approved by those present. The BoD are hopeful that the increases will help to put the Region on a stronger financial footing.
