What a success the Winter meet on Sunday 2nd February turned out to be. The admissions table recorded 101 members and 50 non members signed in. This was the second year the meet has been held on a Sunday. The reason for the change from a Saturday to a Sunday was made on the basis that it assisted traders and also members/non members who worked on a Saturday to attend. In addition, the weather was fair, unlike a Saturday meet some years ago in January when it snowed and the meet was cancelled.
I would like to thank Mick Moignard and Keith Webb together for their assistance in organising such a successful event. Next year’s date is Sunday 7th February.
On Saturday 7th March I attended the Freemo South event. An impressive selection of modules were on display. Much of the planning and preparation was done before hand by Dan Spalding and Geoff Tiller. Geoff spent all of Satur- day afternoon at the dispatchers’ desk preparing and handing out the work sheets to the various train crews. Thanks must also go to Neil Rogers for his elec- trical/DCC Support over the weekend.
I’m sure by now that many members will know that Model Junction, run by Stewart and Farah Gorman for the last 21 years, is coming to an end.The shop
at Slough closed for customers and visitors on Friday 21st February although they will continue trading online until the end of September. I paid a visit on the penultimate day to thank them for being supporters of American railroading for so many years and sadly wish them a sincere goodbye and thank you.
One highlight I must mention, out of many, Model Junction sponsored the NMRA BR 2010 Convention, Stewart collected Pelle Soeborg from the airport, also arranging his accommodation. Pelle held two weathering clinics and two Modelling with the Masters clinics. I was fortunate to be able to attend one of the weathering clinics.
