Active Groups

Seaboard Southern has had a somewhat nomadic existence over the last 18 months myself and Chris James were slightly surprised to be contacted by Crawley Council back in October about a couple of huts at Tilgate Park, Crawley becoming vacant. Whilst this was a great opportunity we were both a little sceptical having been given the run-around in the past on hut applications but never the less the required paperwork was submitted and we sat back and waited. Image my surprise then when I got a call from Chris a week or so later to say that the council were offering us a hut plus a site visit before making a decision. The hut in question turned out to have been used as office space so was very well insulated, decorated and fitted out with a kitchen area. Chris and I just about managed to keep some degree of “poker face” before confirming our acceptance. A week of so later, armed with a signed 3-year lease and keys the membership descended on previous shared premises and began the task of moving out our kit. This was too arduous as it was around 100 odd metres from our new one! Our kit safely stowed the members all commented on the excellent facilities now on offer.

That was back in early November and since then the existing HO modules from our old days at Gatwick House (“The Space”) have been set up for running as well as Alan Crooks lending Three Bridges for the N scalers to use. We have also picked up 2 new members which hopefully bodes well for the future. Previous activities have been revived so we have the DVD player in the crew room installed and ‘bring & buy’ (for surplus railway bits) nights in place for the last Friday of each month.

Going forward the group is committed to building a new sectional HO layout to replace the previous modules plus new N scale and On30 layouts. As an a NMRA group we are very happy to receive visitors so if you would like to drop by (Friday eve at present) please contact the Secretary (Dan Spalding) for times & directions

South Shore meets weekly on a Wednesday evening at Sompting Village Hall, Sompting, near Worthing - except for the second Wednesday each month when it is held at a member's home.  For details of the group see their page or their website at www.southshore.org.uk

The Surrey Group started in 2015 and meets in members' homes.  Dates will appear in Roundhouse from time to time or come back here to check.  Contact Stephen Black for more details.

Kent & East Sussex which meets in members' homes on a round robin basis most months.  For details of what is happening see their page on this website, click here: Kent & East Sussex

The Future

The Division does not meet as such since there are four active groups but some thought is being given to holding Division-wide events such as a layout tour and a one or two day event at a location central to the Division in the near future.
