On30 Annual 2019

The On30 Annual 2019 is now available from White River Productions – at least, in the United States. I don’t believe it’s made it across the Atlantic yet; none of the usual UK stockists appear to have it listed. I’ve attached the URL so readers can view the full contents: https://shop.whiteriverprod...

Just to give you a 'heads up', the March issue will include KALEY YARD, an HO layout set "somewhere in the California desert."

Sn3 Modeler magazine ceases publication

I’m not sure if there’s anyone in the British Region who models in Sn3. It’s not something I’d want to attempt (or S Scale full stop for that matter) due to the lack of commercial support but many of the layouts look superb. There is (or rather was) a dedicated magazine, ‘Sn3 Modeler’, published twi...

HOn3 Annual 2018

The 2018 HOn3 Annual from White River Productions has now made it to UK stockists (I don’t think it’s been out that long in the States either). I’ve just ordered mine from Bill Hudson Transport Books. From the list of contents, it looks as if there’s a particular emphasis on the East Tennessee &...

Continental Modeller February 2019

The latest issue of Continental Modeller contains two features that may be of interest to NMRABR members: CEDAR FALLS Martin Kirkham describes his deceptively simple and seemingly spacious American N layout – somewhere to watch long trains rumble by. REDWOOD A backwoods fantasy: Steve Adcock has cre...

Re: Great Model Railroads 2019

“This year,” says the Editor, “it seems the theme is compact layouts…We didn’t plan it that way, I swear.” Well, I’ve now studied GMR 2019 in depth and have to admit that I didn’t think it was that brilliant – certainly not as good as last year’s. I liked the two narrow gauge layouts – ‘From Rico to...

Great Model Railroads 2019

Is it really twelve months since I posted the message about 'Great Model Railroads 2018'?!!! Well, the 2019 issue is now available from UK stockists (I just picked up mine in WHSmith). According to the blurb: "This issue offers loads of inspiration with layouts depicting: Gritty railroading in ...

Re: Modelling the Wild West

Someone's just pointed out that a few years back Carstens published a book called, 'Modeling the Wild West.' Apparently, it includes step-by-step instructions for modelling old railroad buildings and gold mines etc! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MODELING-THE-WILD-WEST-modeling-scenes-of-the-old-Wild-We...

Modelling the Wild West

The April 2018 edition of Model Railroader magazine features the Sierra Pintada & Western RR, a fascinating HO scale layout set in 1880s Arizona. It’s the brainchild of Willem Van der Hoeven, a former Swedish government economist who lives near Stockholm. Apparently, Willem’s Wild West-themed la...

Re: Colorado Midland

There's a nice Colorado Midland layout in 'Great Model Railroads 2018', recently released by Kalmbach Publishing. Andrew Dodge's Proto:48 (O fine scale) layout models the CM Second Division ca. 1897.
