Re: how to manage a module meet?

Brian, I think there's a danger of assuming everyone else views the modules in the way that you do. (And I'm acutely aware that I fall for that too! ;) ) Your group not only has overall less willingness to travel, but also has the advantage that the only other group near to you (us!) uses the exact...

Re: how to manage a module meet?

It is always important to think of how and where modules will be used. Most modules will not travel anywhere, other than remain local to the club their owner belongs to. Even if the owner wishes to attend other modular meets/gatherings elsewhere in the country, s/he will firstly be in a minority of ...

Re: how to manage a module meet?

In respect of Tom's Suggestion #3 (which I would also humbly agree with), perhaps the cost of providing such temporary panels could be paid from NMRA(BR) funds, as they would be a positive contribution that would facilitate US modellers to enjoy the shared benefits of modular operation?

Re: Scratch building a warehouse

Looks good, Koos. You probably will, anyway, but I strongly recommend bracing the whole structure with thick styrene rod, as without it, the structure will eventually start to twist and warp. Same thing happened to the elevators I scratchbuilt on Anson, and luckily I managed to strengthen them befor...

Re: how to manage a module meet?

I confess my own device is an ancient Nokia thing, and I happily appall my children by calling it my "portable telephone". It affords me an ability to send and recieve texts (which I like), and to be phoned by other people (which I hate, and avoid at all costs). In my defence, I feel that ...

Re: how to manage a module meet?

I think it's important to let things settle for a while, and find out just how good the various "new" control technologies work. It's easy to forget just how recently the modular/ops/DCC combination has taken off as a USP of the NMRA(BR), and something that so many people now want to have ...

Re: Interested in Layout Design?

Layout design is an area that fascinates me too! However, I'm not a member of the LDSIG mainly because I've never got around to joining! I do agree with Brian M. that we do have different parameters / experience over here, but I have found that since going over to US modelling I have picked up diff...

Re: Interested in Layout Design?

I'm interested in layout design, but not a member of the group you mention. It would be a great idea to start something "from scratch", for UK-based modellers, as we have slightly different parameters, and a different hinterland of experiences. It's a subject that's discussed on the RMWeb,...

Re: Setting up Tsunami decoders

Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders have great sounds, but can blight a locomotive with "herky-jerky" sudden starts and stops, which (for me, anyway) completely ruin the effect of operating model trains, especially when we've spent so much time and effort to make everything else look "real&qu...

Re: Plano Models etched walkways

As Martyn says, it is an older car, so I'll venture down the repaint route. I may attempt to mask it, but we'll see.

Fully agree with Koos that the metal look is best attained by metal - if it was a more modern car, I'd keep it, but dull it down.

Thanks to both.

Plano Models etched walkways

http://www.planomodelproducts.com/088.htm OK, so I've just completed my first attempt at adding a Plano walkway #088 to a light-grey Missouri Pacific Proto 2000 covered hopper car, as per the above. Question: do I now seek out a colour to match the car and carefully spray the walkway, or do I leave ...
