New Loco Announced by Athearn - Genesis Range GP50

Post by tunnelmotor »

Probably the worst kept secret - Athearn announced this past weekend their next HO scale loco, the EMD GP50.

Oh I dunno.....I hadn't seen anything on my periodic scans of various forums in the last week or so

Anyway, will be side stepping these pending either a BN, late SF (low headlight, ditchlights, no beacon etc) or BNSF model. What would be really nice would be a crewcab BN version 8-)

Mike (Arnold) - I'm sure you could make use of a FWWR version if they get round to it?

As is usually with new model announcements this will mean the probable demise for a currently dormant project on a BB GP50......

Cheers

Reminds me of the guy I know who, some years ago, stripped two then-recently-released Lifelike Proto 2000 SP Black Widow SD7s, re-sprayed them black, and painstakingly turned them into the earlier tiger-stripe livery, choosing 5327 and 5334 as his two locomotives. As soon as the final coat of matt varnish was applied, Lifelike announced three SP tiger-stripe SD7 models, two of which were 5327 and 5334.

Absolutely not the faintest idea who you're talking about there Brian ;-)

Nice looking locos, and of the current release , I like the C&NW version best, but that could be the roof beacon, I'm a sucker for working beacons. :-)

I have to admit to a slight nostalgia trip going on with the announcement, as my first ever US loco was a blue-box CNW GP50, (long since stripped for spares) bought on holiday in the US...
