Model Railroader - March 2013

Post by tunnelmotor »

My MR for March 2013 just arrived today - it has 16 pages missing (27-34 and 75-82); and 16 pages duplicated. If you get yours by subscription check your copy. I have reported this to MR.

It really is silly how a March issue is released early February, surely, that IS the February issue....
Many magazines have the same 'weird' logic, it's all about deadlines etc, but still, I find it strange..

Mine's got the missing and duplicate pages too. Do we have to notify them separately? I suppose we do.

How will they know if not told that your issue was faulty?
Just go to their customer service page,

https://secure.kalmbach.com/customer/he ... ubcode=mrr

Select Customer Service contact form, fill in your details and say what the problem is.
I had a reply in a few hours.

Yes, I worked that out. I was toying with the idea that after a few complaints they might have realised that the whole batch was faulty and sent out a new lot unprompted. Anyway I've done it now and I'm waiting to see what happens.

But they are not all faulty, Nobby's is OK. Last time this happened only a relatively small batch where known to be at fault, mine again!
There was also the badly sealed bags episode, they ended up replacing about four of mine that time. RMC went back to envelopes after trouble with their bags.

My replacement magazine arrived this morning - postage cost $8.00. Ouch for Kalmbach as the cover price is way less than that. Now you see why NMRA Magazine costs us so much over here. Time for an e-copy option on that?

Mine arrived too, brown envelope with a cellophane covered copy inside.
Heavy!

I admit that I would consider it too, but I wonder what the extra cost in printing a lower number would be?

It's the same as MR and RMC etc, the main saving for us with the digital copy is the shipping costs,
but it's whether I want to sit in front of a computer reading it (even if it is an iPad or similar),
bearing in mind I'm looking at 4 computer screens all day when I'm at work?

They must have sent all ours at the same time, mine also arrived today. They normally send one offs, such as special editions, in envelopes. I think the magazines are normally bulk sent and packaged in the UK for local distribution, that is the impression the address insert gives. That would lower the postage costs.
Replacements are commendably sent fast, the day before I received an order I made over three weeks ago that arrived at normal speed.
