Railroad specific paints

Post by torikoos »

Testor's Poly S Railroad Colours have been discontinued for nearly 2 years now, apart from a few generic ones.
Some UK suppliers still have remnants left from this range, but once gone that's it.
Those who like to kitbash, scratchbuild, superdetail railroad equipment might now need another option. Shipping paints with current regulations is however very tricky, but there are some options.
One of them is Trucolor paints, an acrylic paint which are reported to be very good, but they are not yet stocked by anyone to my knowledge in the UK.
They can however be supplied due to their acrylic nature in most cases.
Brand aside, how many paints do you use each year? Reason for this question is a little market research, which I'm doing in aid of a well known US model supplier in the UK, I'm wondering if it is worthwhile for a UK vendor to stock a different paint for the ( truth be told) limited market that US railroad colours probably would find.

Therefore I created the below poll. Can I have your vote's please?

In addition to the main question for which the poll is created, I'd be interested to know when was the last time you bought any paints from any vendor. ( obviously for your hobby use).
Short'n sweet please.

Koos.

I will ask a question here knowing the last one was posted back in 2015.

Has anyone one found colours as supplied here in the UK/Europe thats can be used by us US modellers?

If anyone on here know of any perhaps a list could be started to aid other NMRA/US modellers!

It's not all over yet so take care out there and Happy Model Railroading.

An update...

I have now had a conversation with Steve at Model Railway Solutions, he has told me the order for Tru Colour paints should be with him in the next three weeks. It would appear the road to getting these has been long and a lot of hard work for Steve so I for one will be supporting him. I hope you are able to do the same!!!!

... and a further update,
I phoned the MRS shop a couple of days ago to ask if the Tru Colour paints had arrived, the answer was 'no'. The person I spoke to seemed vague and the impression I got was that it was just 'something they were looking at'.

Mick.

Thanks for the update. I have rang a number of times over the last 2 months asking about these paints being told they are on order and should be here in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Disappointing as we US modellers need a supply of railroad paint.

Happy Model railroading.

I emailed N Scale American Trains, who also stock some HO items, as they stock a small amount of TruColour paint and I copy Tony's reply below---
Hello James

I stock a basic & small range but can get to order, their colours, it may take
4-6 weeks but I'm happy to take orders.

Thankyou for thinking of me.

Regards
