Derby continues the theme...
...of ten years ago when they introduced the concept of a ‘show within a show’. Since then, this idea of a mini exhibition with a specialist theme has proved very popular with exhibitors, traders and visitors alike. In fact, it has since been adopted by many other exhibitions throughout the country.
This year is once again the turn of the American railroaders and the Derby show welcomes the help of the NMRA, and in particular John Hey, for organising the displays that will fill the Darwin Suite.
The ten layouts represent American railroading from the North West and Colorado across to Chicago and onto New York. They depict many diverse themes, from a modern busy interchange yard to a smaller switching operation, from an industrial yard of the 50’s and 60’s when steam was making way for diesel power to the standard and narrow gauge geared locomotives that slowly made their way through the wooded hillsides and deep ravines.
The layouts are modelled in a range of scales, from Richard Insley’s Nn3 layout, Random, to the G scale Newton & Sierra of Geoff Meek. So whatever is your preference for scale or gauge, road or period, whether it is the BNSF or RGS, there should be a little of something for everyone.
