NMRA BRITISH REGION ANNUAL CONVENTION 2014 – THE SEASHORE EXTRA Friday 17–Sunday 19 October 2014
The South Eastern Division is proud to announce that the 2014 Region Convention, The Seashore Extra, will take place at the Carrington House Hotel, Knyveton Road, Bournemouth, Dorset BH1 3QQ from Friday 17 October to Sunday 19 October 2014. This is the same hotel as was used in 2011 and is now part of the Britannia Hotels chain. Room Rates and Registration Fees are held at 2011 prices.
The Seashore Extra will offer a train show in the main suite plus additional space in the entrance lobby. There will be many layouts not seen before at British Region events, in scales ranging from N to On30. There will be full trade support from all your favourite suppliers including LSWR Models, Neal’s NGauging Trains, Plus Daughters, Team Track Trading, Sunningwell Command Control, Brian Trains, Peco etc.
We shall be sharing knowhow with “handson” clinics and demonstrations including a full exposé of Operations; Decoder pro; module design and construction etc – “ask and ye shall find”. Suggestions are invited for more topics you want to see – we can guess, but it is better if the customer tells us what he or she wants from a Convention.
There will also be the traditional Bring & Buy tables available for members’ sales of previously enjoyed and unwanted items, and of course the contest for models and photographs.
The hotel offers 145 bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities, a restaurant, bar and heated swimming pool. There is free WiFi, a children’s play area, and pets are welcome. It is situated just 7 minutes’ walk from Boscombe Chine; 15 minutes’ walk from 7 miles of Bournemouth’s golden beaches. It is just a short bus ride to the town centre, and the Central railway station is a 10minute walk.
Bournemouth itself offers high street shopping at the Town Centre; boutiques and gift shops in Westbourne; and an open street market and antique shops in Boscombe. There are bus services to local areas such as Christchurch, Poole and Salisbury, to name a few attractive destinations for days out. It is in close proximity to the New Forest National Park, Wimborne Minster, Knoll Gardens, Compton Acres, the Swanage Railway, Corfe Castle and other National Trust properties. Just a 20minute walk away is the Russell Coates Art Gallery. There are miles of pleasant walks in the bracing sea air (weather permitting!). The team will provide details of walks and selfdrive tours by car to other destinations in the Bournemouth area.
Registration fees will be for the whole weekend, for members and guests £10; for one day for members and guests £5; and for one day for nonmembers £7. As is traditional, spouses, partners and other family members are free. All completed registration forms should be sent to the Registrar, Chris James, 3C College Road, Epsom, Surrey KT17 4HD. Telephone: 01372 740808. Bring & Buy tables are charged at a rate of £5 for each half of a 6’ by 2’ table for the whole weekend, although the room is only available for certain all of Saturday, as that room will be used for the banquet. Tables can be prebooked with Dave Griffiths, Hardrada, Hardrada Rise, Hastings, East Sussex TN34 2PZ. Telephone: 01424 433355.
More details will appear in Roundhouse and on the website as they are confirmed – see www.nmrabr.org.uk/annual convention. Copies of the Registration Form are also available on the website.
