 installed an exhaust pipe from 1.6 mm brass tube. You can really go crazy on details here. Add the components, which would normally be found on a vehicle like this. Many of these details may be easily constructed using leftover bits and pieces.
As final changes for the underframe, I bend the grab irons and coupler cut levers from brass wire. The model served as a guide. The cut levers were attached to the front and rear sills using metal eyebolts. On the coupler cut lever,
I glued a bit of brass chain and attached it to the coupler knuckle.
I built the footboards from a piece of 5/32” styrene angle and bits of .020” x .060” styrene strips. The boards are stained 3x8 scale lumber.

I painted the underframe Tuscan red and painted the cou- plers a rust colour. Then I installed the footboards and the deck planks using the previously stained scale lumber. After the glue had dried, I punched in nail holes using a pounce wheel.
Finally, I added some accents to the fuel tank and the brake shoes. Then I applied different layers of weathering using powders and washes. RUST-ALL being one of my favourites.
