I am delighted to feature the work of Master Model Railroader® Lex Parker from Ontario, Canada who I have admired and respected for over 40 years and has both helped me on my own journey to achieving my MMR and inspired me to be a better modeller. His modelling videos on YouTube are an absolute inspiration and give detailed “how to” helpfull advice on a variety of modelling challenges that we all face. His highly detailed ON3 D&RGW home layout is amazing - just ask anyone who has been to his home and seen it...!
It is the NMRA Achievement Program that in my opinion is the cornerstone of our organisa- tion and one of the major benefits that we have as members - what other railway group or association rewards its members for their individual achievements in all aspects of our hobby
including; writing articles (Model Railroad Author Certificate), volunteering and giving our time so that others can benefit from our hard work (Association Volunteer Certificate), serving on the Board of Directors (Association Official Certficate), installing an electrical operating system (Model Railroading Engineer - Electrical), laying trackwork and building a layout (Model Railroad Engineer - Civil Certificate), participating as an operator of a model railroad and developing a timetable of operations (Chief Dispatcher Certificate), building structures from kits and scratchbuilding (Master Builder Structures Certificate), creating realistic scenery on a model layout (Master Builder Scenery Certificate), creating a prototype scene with structures and rolling stock (Master Builder Prototype Models Certificate), building freight cars from kits and scratchbuilding (Master Builder Cars Certifi- cate), building motive power units from kits and scratchbuilding (Master Builder Motive Power Certificate).
You only need to achieve a minimum of 7 out of the 11 achievement certificates listed above, with at least one from each of
the four categories: Model Railroad Equipment, Settings, Engineering and Operation and finally Service to the Hobby. You will then earn the distinction of MMR - Master Model Railroader®. Highly recommended is to read through all the information and guidance at: https://www.nmra.org/education/achievement-program, where you can download all the necessary forms. If you need help and guidance just ask Keith Webb AP Chair achievechair@nmrabr.org.uk
NMRA British Region members who have achieved MMR - Master Model Railroader® include: Eric Belshaw MMR, Rod Franklin MMR, Dave Gunn MMR, Alain Kap MMR, Kathy Millat MMR Thanks to David McLaughlin for proofreading this issue.
