It is expected that there will be two other ‘N’ gauge layouts but we cannot confirm at the time of going to press.
We will once again be running a Silent Auction, which was such a big hit at the last Peterborough Convention. On top of this there will also be a number of Clinics and Demonstrations + all the usual trade support, outside attractions and a ladies section program.
This is the first Convention of the New Millennium and many mem- bers of the British Region are working very hard to make the event worthy of this distinction. Whether you come for the weekend or for the day, we are sure you will have a great time and look forward to your support.
In this issue (page 23) there is a separate Booking Form. Further in- formation and additional booking forms will appear in future edi- tions of Roundhouse and can also be accessed on the Regions Web Site at http://home.freeuk.net/nmrabr/welcome.htm
Information will also be available at the Region Meets during the year. The Convention Registrar, Gil Firth can be contacted at 51 Gar- den Road, Woolmer Green, Knebworth, Herts SG3 6JZ - Tel No. 01438 812655.
Other members of the Convention Committee include Paul Atkins, John Firth, Martin Gibson, Chris Hobbs and Bob Smith.
To ensure smooth running of the event itself, we are looking for
‘volunteers’. If you can provide some extra help, over the weekend, maybe just for a few hours, please contact one of the above.
Advance Notice...
THE MILLENNIUM EXPRESS
NMRA (BR) Annual Convention
Venue: The Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford Date: Friday October 20th - Sunday 22nd
The Cedar Court Hotel is a comfortable, modern 4 star venue con- veniently located on the edge of the city, close to the motorway net- work and public transport. Each room has en-suite facilities and Satellite TV. A leisure centre, swimming pool and games area is open all day and will be a great family attraction. Children under 14 shar- ing their parents room are accommodated free.
The main exhibition hall is one of the largest that we have yet had available for a Convention. We intend making good use of this with probably the highest number of attending layouts and traders ever. Many layouts will allow operation to all, plus ‘running rights’ and we encourage you to bring your own equipment to run, or just take part in running the trains.
Although Bradford does not immediately spring to mind as a Tourist City, it is in fact very centrally placed, surrounded by attractive coun- tryside (plenty of good walking) and has many top attractions. Amongst others, the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, following its recent multi-million pound refurbishment is now worthy of its National status and is only ‘down the road’. If you bring the children (up to about age 12 and probably 45+) then Eu- reka at nearby Halifax is a must.
Layouts for the Convention so far confirmed include: Rock Springs ‘HO’ by members of the South Western Group
40’ x 14’ mainly Western steam and diesel Calder Northern ‘HO’ - 30’x 10’ modular
